I have been working with kids for the past year, I have experienced ages 5 months to 15 years. The more I interacted with the younger children the more I realized I can help shape these young minds for the better. That motivated me to start doing more, especially being since I work as an afterschool provider. The class I mainly watched was a kindergarten class and it was honestly so fun and made me happy to play and help these kids. I feel I possess great patience and unlike other teachers I have witnessed before I feel I can connect with the kids. I feel I can get an understanding of their point of view. I’m 18 and sometimes I realize that other teachers, that are older than me, only want to look at the problems or misunderstandings that happen with children negatively. I don’t always do because I can understand that the root of these problems goes deeper and you need to actually find the root and addressed it or simply talk about it for it to begin being solved. Sometimes problems within children or misbehaving actions come from simple feelings that can be solved by just exposing them to positive gentle words and actions. Overall I feel my ability to understand, take the time, and have patience with these kids’ babies, toddlers or pre-teens is the reason I’d be a great teacher.
Barb — Thanks for your comment in this activity. I wonder, why do you think you can connect with the children? I wonder, what other skills do great teachers need in addition to the ability to understand, take time, and have patience with young children?
I want to work with young children because I love kids (I have one of my own her name is Khy ‘lee). I feel as if it can express my love with kids. The qualities and skills I have with working with kids is patience, flexibility, creativity, caring and compassion, and the love for young children.
I want to work with children because I have an knowledge of educational values. I have the creative, learning, and problem solving skills to become an early childhood teacher.
Moses — Thanks for your comment in this activity. I wonder, can you share more about “your knowledge of educational values”?
I do not wish to work with children, I joined the class to fill my writing intensive requirement. However, I believe that I have much experience I am a mom of 4 children, 2 teens, and 2 at school age. One of my school-age children is on the autism spectrum and I thought it would be an awesome learning opportunity to study the psychology of early childhood.
Agustine — Thanks for your comment in this activity. We are thrilled you are here! What is your major? What are your career goals?
As cliché, as it sounds children are the future. If I can help children overcome any trauma, misunderstood feelings, or honestly anything that I know can shape or alter their future I want to help. I believe children are delicate and absorb almost everything they see and hear. Sometimes they see things that they shouldn’t, whether the parent meant to expose them to it or not.
Wykima, Thanks for your comment in this activity. Many, many, many children are exposed to trauma. I wonder, does your desire to work with young children connect to children who have experienced trauma? I wonder, what skills and qualities do you possess that will make you a good early childhood professional?
I want to work with young children, specifically toddlers, because I truly think those are the years that mold their personality and I want to be a part of that. Also, children are complex little humans and I feel like working with them will help me understand them more.
I want to work with young children because I would like to hopefully be a positive part of the process of a child’s development. I feel that my patient,kind,caring,calm,open-minded,easy-going personality will make me a great Early Childhood Teacher.
Kaylia — Thanks for your comment in this activity. Having a positive influence in a child’s development & learning is powerful for the child & adult. I wonder, do great earrly childhood teachers possess any other characteristsics in addition to having a patient, kind, caring, calm. open-minded, and easy-going personality?
The reason I want to work with children is because since I was a child that has been my desire. I would even play school pretending to be a teacher with my cousin’s and or with a bunch of stuff animals lol
seriously though. Also, I want to be able to help children of all sorts but especially those with a learning disability. The skills and quality I possess are I’m caring, understanding, observant and I’m very precise.
As well as a person who is always on their toes and tend to stay on top of my stuff get things done before they should be due. I’m Reliable have good communication skills and a very organized person.
Satina — Thanks for your comment in this activity. I appreciate that you knew you wanted to work with young children when you were a child yourself. I wonder, what other qualities do successful early childhood teachers need in addition to being caring, understanding, ibservant, precise, on their toes, on top of things, get things done before they are die, reliable, good communication skills, and very organized?
I’m not sure what you are asking me ?
I want to work with children because they are our future. Children are exposed to teachers and students for half of their day. They grow from what they see and form that into themselves. I want to give children the motivation to try new things and help them grow. I used to take care of a lot kids growing up from baby-sitting to just volunteering for younger grades to help. When I see them accomplish their own goals. It feels good knowing they succeeded. I always felt connected to teaching since I was younger and I believe I am cut out for this field. The qualities I possess is patience, caring, team-work, communicative and more. Growing up I did not have many patient teachers who genuinely cared for their students. Feeling like your teacher who you spend half your day with for five times a week feels as if you can not trust your teacher. It does help a child to develop trust and honesty. Being bullied as a young kid many teachers turned a blind eye. When asked by teachers I always lied saying nothing happened. Because no trust was formed. As growing up I did the same to other teachers where I never reached out for assistance. Whenever I meet new children the first thing I always do is develop a bond so they can learn to trust and be honest with themselves. Which I believe is very important for their learning in school and as a person.
When I was a child I did not learn like my classmates. I took more time like other students. But I did
not have a person in school who wanted to help me and understood my problem in read
and written. It is a reason I want to be a teacher to support the students in their
academic learning.
Lesly — Thanks for your comment in this activity and for sharing your story. I appreciate that you want to ensure all children have people to advocate for & support them, especially since you did not have that person in your life. I wonder, what qualities would and early childhood teacher who supports students have?
In my opinion qualities might have early childhood teacher who supports student individual; is passion, love, hope, believe, strength, values, confidence, desire, protection, amiability and this way a teacher it can be very helpful for the children.
Why do you want to work with young children? The reasons i want to work with children because it always been a passion since i was young. Also, children are blessings and innocents babies that’s sweet and caring and i just love kids.
What qualities and skills do you possess that will make you an effective early childhood teacher? i want to push myself hard to make sure all my work is in when due and don’t fall. I will do lots of tutoring staying focus.
Amber — Thanks for your comment in this activity. I appreciate your love for young children and that you knew you wanted to work with young children from an early age. In addition to being motivated, what qualities do effective early childhood teachers possess?
I want to work with young children because they would bring me joy whenever I am around them. The qualities and skills that I have when working with kids are patience, observance, understanding, creativity, and compassion will make me an effective early childhood teacher.
Judith — Thanks for sharing your comment in this activity. Young children bring joy in a way that few things do. I wonder, what other qualities do effective early childhood teacher possess, in addition to patience, understanding, creativity, and compassion?
I want to work with young children because it’s been a passion of mine to work in the Early Childhood field since I was a pre-teen. I’ve worked with children of all ages but I am a firm believer in educating and guiding children from the very early stages in their lives. I’ve worked in Child Care for nearly 20 years as a Provider within Family Child Care, Day Care Centers, Child Care Agencies. I’ve been a Nanny and worked with children with special needs as a Home Health Aid and I’ve also been a Teacher’s Assistant working for the NYC Board of Ed Public Schools. Over the years I’ve gained many child care certifications, along with my Teacher’s Assistant Certification. I can say I have built a large portion of my life engaging and experiencing working with many young children and I can also say it’s been my calling for a long time. I have always been open minded to learning any and everything I need to know about becoming a successful, licensed Early Childhood Teacher. So to say I enjoy working with young children would be an understatement. It’s what I know and I am very appreciative of the many opportunities that have been sent my way.
Linda — Thanks for your comment in this activity. I wonder, why do you firmly believe that education and guiding children from a young age is important? You bring a wealth of experience to our learning community! In addition to being open-minded, what qualities do you possess that makes you an effective early childhood teacher?
Thank you, Professor Longley. I believe in educating and guiding children from a young age is important because the early stages are the most critical stages. The way their brains absorb and even unknowingly gather information by what they see and hear is very crucial for a child’s growing mind for development. It is important that the child’s parent(s) or caregiver(s) pay highly attention to the child’s surroundings and base their potential of so much from within their environment. Besides being open-minded, I am also very attentive, patient, encouraging, and creative (which has grown with experience). I’ve also gained leadership skills over the years while also implementing teamwork skills within classroom/child care settings.
Working with children has always been a dream and a passion for me since a young age. I recall many times telling my family that I wanted to take care of kids as a job in a daycare, teaching or even in an orphanage. I have always felt the need to help others. I am very understanding and patient when it comes to kids. I am experienced with kids of many ages, since I have babysat a majority. I believe a great trait of mine kids seem to see with me is that they see me as trustworthy. I believe this is especially important to have with kids so they can have the confidence to be around you and open up.I believe I possess many positive qualities and skills that will make me effective s a early childhood teacher.
Mariana — Thanks for your comment in this activity. Being trustworthy is important for young children & adults. I wonder, how do young children know if a person is trustworthy?
I think to work with young children is very important to know each other and for better understanding. We know that young children cannot express their emotion and feelings all time. Even though they express their feelings sometimes, still we cannot get the real reason behind that. Therefore, it is a very good opportunity to work with them and learn their emotions and behavior. We should spend more time with young children and talk to them about themselves. That’s way I can learn how to keep patience with young children and how we can keep good communication by listening them. I have a toddler and he also do some tantrum and I cannot control him. I feel hopeless that time. Therefore, to work with young children and spend time with them, definitely I will gain knowledge about to maintain young children and that will help me to become an effective early childhood teacher.
Shipra — Thanks for your comment in this activity. Having toddlers can be tough. I wonder, what does it mean to “maintain young children”? I wonder, is there a connection between tantrums & young children working through their emotions & behavior?
I have always had a passion for working as a teacher from a very young age. I remember back in the Caribbean, around age 10 I would always play school with my younger cousins where I would be the teacher. Flashback to moving to the US I worked with a family where I taught a 4.5-year-old to read a level k-1 story book. I love seeing the joy on children’s faces after an accomplishment. I now have 2-year-old a daughter who surprises me every day with the number of words she uses in her vocabulary, the excitement of pointing and naming different shapes, colors animals, etc. I have a passion for teaching young kids and it’s definitely my happy place.
Melissa — Thanks for your comment in this activity! Seeing the developmental gains that young children make & watching them learn new things brings joy to me also!
I want to work with young children so I can be an inspiration to them like my kindergarten teacher was to me. I have patience, empathy, creativity and a love for young children and I think those are good skills that will make me an effective early childhood teacher.
Fatima — Thanks for your comment in this activity. I wonder, how was your kindergarten teacher an inspiration to you?
sorry I clicked reply on accident i wasn’t done
I want to work with young children so I can be an inspiration to them like my kindergarten teacher was to me. She always had a passion for teaching and I always wanted to keep the passion for teaching alive. Ever since i was in elementary school I told myself I wanted to become a teacher as well to not only teach children but to make the learning process a little more fun for them. I would give them treats if they do good for a week straight or throw them a little party at the end of the month if i got it approved to get kids more excited for school and remember what they learn. I have patience, empathy, creativity and a love for young children and I think those are good skills that will make me an effective early childhood teacher. As well as a passion for teaching
Fatima — Thanks for your comment in this activity. No worries about hitting post too soon! I wonder, how do you demonstrate your passion for teaching?
I want to work with young children because when I was around the age of 7 or 8 I would have a chalkboard and act like a teacher to my cousins and siblings. Also during quarantine I had to help my brother understand his homework so I had a lot of patients with him so he can understand what he is doing. The qualities and skills that I posses that will make me an effective early childhood teacher is having patients with kids, observe the way they learn and do things and understand them better.
Devi — Thanks for your comment in this activity. Having patience is important when working with young children. I wonder, are there any other qualities that early childhood teachers should possess?
Honestly, I don’t really want to work with children. I’m taking this class for a WI class but hopefully with this class I can learn everything there is in ECE 110 so i have some perspective when I have children of my own.
Damaris — Thanks for your comment in this activity. What is your major at BMCC?
Children are the next generation, having the chance and opportunity to help them grow and be leaders is a blessing. Future presidents, astronauts, senators etc are who we are teaching today. There’s power in teaching knowledge more than people know. Im currently in the doe as a para proffesional and I love what I do, the kids spark joy into my life on the gloomiest of days and vice versa. There’s a certain heartwarming feeling seeing kids genuinely excited to learn, wether its math, science, art and the list goes on.
Being an effective early childhood teacher requires many qualities and skills, some that I possess is being very organized, patient, and prepared. early childhood education is not my major I major in psychology. becoming so involve with my job I’ve decided to take this class ignorer to learn more and pass on the knowledge.
Shemar — Thanks for your comment in this activity. I look forward to hearing more about your experiences as a para & working with young children!
Why do you want to work with young children? I want to work with young children because they are like sponges they obtain everything and it’s easy to teach them. also i love to see them grown and their accomplishment excites me. What qualities and skills do you possess that will make you an effective early childhood teacher? I will say patient because not all of the class will get the work at once. creative too like doing things that work for you and your class.
Tamara — Thanks for your comment in this activity. Pateince is important when working with young children; I wonder, are there any other qualities you have that would make you an effective early childhood teacher?
I honestly never thought I would like to work with young children until I had my son. As my son grew up I realized how much fun it can be to educate a child, which can also be a battle sometimes. Some qualities and skills that I possess that can make me an effective early childhood teacher are patience, creativity and love for young children.
Rosely — Thanks for your comment in this activity. Having your own children can make you a better early childhood educator. I wonder, can you explain more about what you mean when you wrote it can be a battle sometimes to educate a child?
What I mean is it can be a battle because sometimes we don’t know what to do in some situations like when a child is having a tantrum or when the child doesn’t want to follow the rules. I think that if we don’t have the experience we can get nervous or irritated instead of looking for a solution to help children in these situations.
I want to work with young children because as the older sister of 4 younger siblings I have, I have experienced throughout with them which is either helping them with homework, being like their second mom, or helping them develop many new things to learn and understand. I started to have a passion for kids when I volunteer to work at daycare after school during my HS year which was the best experience because these kids made me smile when they wanted me to play, cheer, and sing and the best was nap time. I knew I wanted to develop my career with children so why not go through the early childhood education path, it’s a great start to learn many new things about everyone’s children and be able to help these young toddlers/kids grow physically/mentally. The qualities and skills I would possess that will make me an effective early childhood teacher would be my happiness and smile each day to show my kids that it’s never good to start the day without a smile. I would be patient, understanding, and calm with each child I come across because we never know what they are going through or how they learn.
Stephanie — Thanks for your comment in this activity. Being happy & cheerful — and silly — is an important part of working with young children. Thanks for capturing that!
I want to work with children because I want to pursue a teaching career, I’ve always been a fond of kids and helping others. When I was 8 years old I still needed help reading and I had a specific teacher who was really patient with me, because of her my reading skills highly improved. With her patience and will to teach me I overcame one of my hardest academic problems. After this I always felt like helping children in school, this lead me to work for 4 years with children. At ages 15 to 17 I was a reading tutor for kids ages 5 to 8 years old. I helped them improve their reading skills, all the kids I was tutoring were grades behind their reading level. This brought back many memories of how I struggled, after this I was promoted to being a senior tutor which meant I could assess certain kids who finished reading sets of books. This experience just pushed me mor to what I wanted. Some skills I’ve developed from working with kids is plenty of patience and the will to help kids that need it. Another skill is pushing others to do their best. I was able to push one of my students to read 2 books during tutoring and 1 book at home.
I want to work with children because I have a little sister. My parent busy with their work, I take over the job to take care of my sister. When I see her glow up little by little, that is a very amazing experience for me. I find a lot of fun teaching my sister our home language. Teach her the life skills that she need to have, and guiding her to develop good living habits. Sometimes she is very annoying but most the time she always listen to me. And I also very like kids, I want to give it a try to become a early childhood teacher. I want to accompany them to grow up, to guide them to develop good living habits and acquire the necessary life skills.
I would like to work with young children because my whole life I was raised with a lot of children, even though I am a lonely child. My mom was a babysitter for many years. Within those years I got to meet new kids and I got to help then with homework, I got to do arts and crafts with them, I got to eat lunch or even feed the young ones lunch. I was always helping out my mom and I was always helping those who needed help. Beside helping my mom in her babysit, I also played soccer my whole life. Within my soccer camps or soccer teams I had a role of a leader on the field and a role of a friend outside the field. Some qualities and skills I possess that will make me an effective early childhood teacher would be that I am caring, creative, flexible, organized and more.
I want to work with young children because it is the only job that I genuinely feel like I would enjoy doing. It is is also the only career that I am passionate about and that I would naturally have the enthusiasm and energy to do. I never thought I would become a early child hood educator but I’ve always known that I love children. Some qualities and skills that I posses in order to become an early childhood educator is authenticity, respect and patience. I have a lot of other skills that I need to develop but these are the skills that I feel come most natrually to me and that I value.

Although working with children sometimes may be difficult I want to educate them along with having fun if I do become a teacher. I also wanted this job because after seeing different classes from different careers I realized that I just wanted a decent job that will give me a good payroll and allow me to have enjoyable and relaxing life sometimes. Thinking about that thought/idea sometimes makes me feel guilty but is it really a crime to look for a job that’s a little bit easier once you learn about it, and just have a relaxing life?
I want to to work with children because growing up i remember how much of an inspiration my teachers were to me. Some of my favorite teachers have taught me some important lessons that i still keep with me to this day. I think there’s no greater role than to be a child’s remodel and to be able to build a someplace for them to learn and grow in. Also, you can also learn from children, they have fresh perspectives and their company can be refreshing. Some qualities that i have that would be effective in a early childhood teacher is my patience, my attention to detail, sense of humor, and my creative ways of problem solving.
