Module 1 Assignment #1: Introductions (5/26-5/27)

Go to FlipGrid  (log onto Flip-Grip using your BMCC email) to upload a video introducing yourself by answering the following questions:

    1. What is your preferred name and preferred pronouns?
    2. Share what you would you like us to know about you.
    3. Why are you taking ECE 110 this summer?
    4. What goals do you have for ECE 110? What do you hope to learn?
    5. What are you most looking forward to in ECE 110?
    6. What are you most worried or concerned about for ECE 110?

Module 1 Assignment #2: Preparing for On-Line Learning (5/26-5/27)

 

  1. Upload a photo or memoji/ bitmoji as your picture (in My Settings on the Course Profile Page of Open Lab).
  2. Please email me (Jen at jlongley@bmcc.cuny.edu) your preferred phone number & preferred email address.
  3. Watch the video on time management and tips for on-line student success, then answer the following questions:
  • What are 2 techniques you will use to manage your time in this on-line class, at least 1 technique should be from the video.
  • How will the 2 techniques help you be successful in this on-line class?
  • What challenges could prevent you from using the techniques?  How will you deal with those challenges?

Module 1 Assignment #3: Scavenger Hunt (5/26-5/27)

After exploring the Open Lab site and reading the Syllabus, Assignment Guidelines, Policies, and Course Guide for ECE 110-Lecture, answer the following questions:

  1. What should you do if you have a technical issue with Open Lab and/ or cannot complete assignments  by 11:59 PM on the days the work is  due?
  2. What papers are due for ECE 110-L?
  • When are the papers due?
  • How many points is each paper worth?
  1. How should you submit paper for ECE 110-Lecture?
  2. Where can you find the posts for ECE 110-Lecture?
  3. When replying to a comment written by a colleague in class, what word should you include in your reply?

Module 1 Assignment #4: Becoming a Skilled Observer

Answer the questions in bold italicized font below.

  1.  Picture
    1. Take a moment and draw a picture of a person carrying a baby. It can be stick figures, you will keep the picture — you do not have to share it with me.  After you have drawn your picture, go to this website to view a picture.
    2. Is your drawing the same as the photo or different? Why?
  2. Sample Observations
    1. Read the observations. A new child is coming into your class, which observations of the child would you rather have? Why?
    2. Based on your answer above, which descriptions of a child do you think would be helpful to write and share with others.
  3. Review Power Point

    1. Applying what you learned in the PowerPoint, the sample observations, and Jablon (2010) write a description of the 3 children in the photos below, being as detailed and objective as possible.

    1. Watch the video below (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cnco3eS_Hc&t=10s). Write a chronological, sequential narrative description of what you see the child doing. Be detailed & objective. Your description should be:
      1. in paragraph form
      2. start with what you see at the beginning of the video
      3. end with what you see as the video ends
      4. Include the following:
        1. What does the child do during the observation?
        2. How does the child move — include all types of movements
        3. What does the child look at, gaze at?
        4. What seems to attract the child’s interest? How can you tell?
        5. What toys, materials, &/or furniture does the child use? How?
        6. How does the child communicate, including vocalizations, sounds, cries, babbling, words, facial expressions and gestures?
        7. How the child interacts with people?
        8. Anything else you notice.

 

Module 1 Assignment #5: Self-Reflection (5/26-5/27)

At the end of the semester you will determine your grade for ECE 110 based on your self-assessment of what you have learned. In preparation for your self-assessment, answer the questions below; you will answer these questions at the end of each module so you have a record of what you have learned over the semester. You can answer the questions here on Open Lab or create a journal on Blackboard (which would be private — go to Blackboard for ECE 110-Lecture, to the Assignments section on the left to find the Self-Assessment Journal).
