In the movie “Moonlight” there were a lot of moral dilemmas but the scene I decided to reflect on was the part where Chiiron was attacked by his only friend. Ever since Chiiron “Little” was young he was being picked on by everyone except his only friend Kevin. Years go by and they are now in high school, the other students who were bullying Chiiron told Kev to beat “Little” (Chiiron) up until he doesn’t get back up. In this scene Kevin chose to do whatever would help improve his situation which is the 3rd moral position by Chafee. He beat up his friend in order to save himself from being attacked. If Kev were to follow his conscience I believe he would not have hit Chiiron in the first place and just warn his friend. For the second moral position which is “I don’t know what I would do” Kev would have possibly just not shown up to the park after school where he was told to meet them. If Kev decided to do what the scripture said is right he would not have put his hands on his own friend as it is an offense to god. Moral position 5 says “I would do whatever made me happy” In this case Kev would have just walked home with Chiiron instead of waiting outside with the other group of boys. Position number 6 which is following the advice of an authority figure would lead Kev going to the principal and reporting the other students for bullying and harassment. Doing what’s best for everyone, which is moral position number 7 would result in Kevin just telling an adult or straight up telling the bullies that they were wrong and he would not be a part of the attack. In this situation I would take moral position 1 and follow my conscience. So I would not hit my friend instead I would tell an adult. The reason I say this is because I would not feel comfortable hurting someone just because another person told me to do so. I have my own brain and I also have free will so I can do what I want.
