Summary

Fallacy : Special Pleading

Definition: Taking attention away from the main issue to focus on a false cover up claim

Example: Jonathan claimed that his drunk driving accident he got into was caused mainly by the intoxication of how much alcohol he consumed but he believes he should still not go to jail or face any charges since his clear record would be ruined over a mistake he "did not intend" to cause.

In the example given above, Jonathan does admit that his accident occurred most likely due to him having too much to drink and how not facing any consequences would be the right thing to do for the sake of his clean records and not being charged for something he didn't intend for to happen. However, it is already common sense to most people to not drink and drive and by using this fallacy, Jonathan is trying to plead and have people understand his POV in hopes of slithering his way out of facing anything against him.
