The messages and themes that Beyonce wanted to express in her song, Formation is that she is a confident woman and the public opinion doesn’t matter to her. She knows she has the ability to change the landscape of the music industry, which is why she says “I might get your song played on the radio station”. She has enough influence in the industry that she feels like she can experiment with her music and nothing will happen if many people have a problem with changes. She used dysphemisms in order to convey this message by getting at her haters with aggressive sentences like “Y’all haters corny with that illuminati mess.” She definitely used some hyperboles as well to prove her point of how much influence she has as a celebrity. The main thing that helped out Beyonce to convey this feministic message, was the music video. The director, Melina Matsoukas really helped Beyonce convey this message when making the music video because she was able to make video as a women’s empowerment and a african american appreciation video, which is the message being conveyed in the song itself. Beyonce also invited Matsoukas to her house in order to explain the concept of the album in order for Matsoukas to get an idea of how to go about this video. Explained that the album is about the history of black women during slavery and how it affects now. It is mainly about all black women being proud and confident for themselves.
