Summary
The article I chose from Cults Recovery was, "Who Joins Cults and Why?" In this article it is explained how vulnerable people are most likely to join a cult. It's usually the person going through a situation whether it be a heartbreak, lost a job, or a loved one passed that a recruiter of a cult will be able to get through. "The reality, however, is that anyone, at any again a moment of confusion, personal crisis, or simply a life transition may become attracted to or drawn in by a cult's appeal." Some may think it's people that are weak or stupid that join cults when really it just depends on that person situation. Cults member usually look for Unassertiveness, a lack of self-confidence, Gullibility and more in people. Many cults have flourished especially in the 1970s and 80s, having mostly young adults in college or in a life transition. People can be easily manipulated when it comes to emotions and needing help which some cults take advantage of. Know and learn what you are getting yourself into.

Hi Kiara,
I really like the way you mentioned that some of us may think that only “silly” people joins to a cult; however, nobody knows what the person is going thru. The importance of recognizing vulnerability in oneself and others, especially during challenging life transitions is key to address such a complicated topic. It reminds me to be vigilant about the potential for manipulation, particularly in times of emotional struggle. Also, I consider that understanding the tactics used by cults helps empower individuals to make informed decisions and resist undue influence.
Thank you,
