Summary
Critical thinking is a process that enable us to analyze and evaluate, by hold it up to a high standard, an argumentation. In the first video the speaker defines it as an art that can help us improve our view on the world . The second speaker though emphasize the second aspect of critical thinking which is creative thinking. By saying creative thinking and critical thinking are two faces of the same coin, engaging our mind on questioning things keep our curiosity alive. It provides us imagination in order to make new connection as mean to contribute, innovate and design our world.
I kind of relate more with Jesse Richardson . First I agree with him where he said we should know more on how to think and not what to think. I encounter this truth when doing problem solving in math . Most of the problems that we have to deal with bring together several different mathematical topics and it is all about connection. You have to use your imagination to link them logically in order to solve the problem. I'm not going to lie, I am really bad at problem solving. At this point I do not even know if it is because I lack imagination. Sometimes I even question myself if I know anything about mathematics. However I like it and little by little I am improving.
Secondly I remember in high school when they used to beat us when we did not know by heart our lesson. When I think about it, it makes me laugh like some old good memories. It was more like a military camp than a school by making us do push up or having our palms so hot because of pipe shot. That was the good old days.In a certain way it made us indirectly respect our professor and behave in class. In another way we were more focus on not getting beat than be concentrate on the material the professor cover in class. In the end, in terms of education, getting hit by a stick just to be more involve in the learning process was not a good idea. Thus helping children engaging in their own thinking by peeking their curiosity like Richardson says is more beneficial.
