Summary
Critical thinking is the ability to analyze and interpret information in an unbiased and logical manner. You allow yourself to take in all different kinds of information, points of views and opinions and you typically try to make the best decision with the evidence presented to you. In the video by Gary Reegan, he defines critical thinking as "The art of analyzing and evaluating thinking with a view to improve it". He sees critical thinking as an art because just like an actual art, critical thinking takes time and practice to improve it in oneself. "The art of analyzing and evaluating" refers to someone's ability to understand the information they are being presented with. It also refers to someone's ability to break down and understand to a certain extent how someone else may be thinking or why they may be thinking he way they are. Just like Gary Reegan says think of yourself as an architect, you use the "artifacts" such as writing, an individual's way of speaking, or how they act to try and understand why. I agree with Gary's way of thinking because critical thinking isn't something you can do just off the bat, just like an art it takes time to practice and improve. For example, your comprehension skills which is an important aspect of critical thinking, then you have to work on your analytical skills, and even then, after all that the act of just trying to understand another's way of thinking can be extremely difficult but with practice everyone has the ability to critically think.
