In this article it talks about how the rise of crimes that has been involving our youth and how it has changed our world. It talks about how in the past 3 years the rise of youth involvement in gang activity has risen to a huge number resulting in many deaths. With our kids being involved in gangs they are being involved in dangerous lifestyle with illegal activities such as the use of drugs and getting caught with weapons. According to the article, it states that since October 2020 to October 2021, the Crime rate has taken a risen by 11.2% as well as for Robbery and Felony Assault have also taken a big increase by 15.8% and 13.8%

In this article, it talks about how gangs have increased over the years. In the past decade, it has been estimated that the number of gangs have averaged to be around 27,000 around the United States. The article indicates a graph of how from 1996-2012 have taken a big increase. We can see how there has been a huge decline in gangs from 1996-2003 and it later estimated on how it slowly increased in 2012. It has also estimated that more than 30,000 gangs have been registered a 15% on 2006. According to the article, it also indicates that the highest percentage of gangs in areas are located in larger cities and it is registered a 41.6% of gangs, in smaller cities is registered a 27.1%, in suburban cities has a 25.8%, but there’s a lower percentage in rural counties with a 5.5%.

In this article it talks about how the possession of guns has also related to many gang takedowns. During the years of 2002-2011 many of the street stops in New York City made by the New York Police Department (NYPD) has made an increase of a magnitude from 97,000 to 680,000. But now due to the federal litigation and declaring these stops to be unconstitutional the stops made by the NYPD has been decreasing by 12,000 five years later. Due to the stops declining made by the police it has been registered that the New York’s southern and eastern districts have been working with the five district attorney’s offices in order to have a better policing strategy to confront serious crimes and other violence. This movement is a way to increase targeted enforcement against criminal gangs. But these gang takedowns are mainly coordinated in raids for which gang members are arrested for felony crimes. According to the article, it states that with the gang takedowns there has been a decrease during 2011-2016 which NYC shootings and homicide rates have declined approximately 50%.

This article talks about how gun violence has taken a big turn to gang activity and on top of that on the hot weather in NYC. Officials have said that the shootings were up by more than 9% and homicides have been up nearly 20%. According to the NYPD chief Dermont Shea, said that about half of the shootings made for the month of May were involved with gang violence. According to the article, it states that many of the shooting rates taken place in the month of May has increased a 22% from last year and with 104 reported of deaths. Many of these shooting rates that have taken place have been conducted to target rival gangs but, unfortunately with a flying bullet has taken the life of innocent by standards.

In this article it talks about how the NYPD is setting a plan in order to find some solution to put a stop to gang related activities. The NYPD has their own definition of a gang which is “a group that engages in criminal behavior and has a formal organizational structure, identifiable leadership, and territory”. This shows that as much a definition of a gang is reasonable, for the NYPD seeing how gangs mark their territory, their records or behaviors, and the type of group they hang out it will always be their definition. The U.S. Department of Justice has calculated their estimation of 750,000 gangs around the United States. Many gang members start having a change in their life to a gang life that at a young age but, mostly the average gang rage is from 18-25 years old.
