The neighborhood I am going to report is Longwood in the South Bronx. According to the NYC Population fact finder in 2020, 71.4% of the population is Hispanic, and 23.8% is black/African American, the rest of the people living in my community are other races but small numbers of them live here. According to NYU furman center, the median household income in 2019 was $26,350 and in that same year, the poverty rate in Longwood was 39.6%.
The violent crime rate in Longwood is almost double of the rest of the city, growing up in this neighborhood I have seen my fair share of violence happening to people and it was always something that I had to be aware of when I’m in my neighborhood.
This was the report from the week of 4/10/23-4/16/23. We can see that from the beginning of the year, there have been 107 felony assaults and seven of those happened in six days.
