Step 2 – Lisamarie

The first article I will be using in my project is:

  • Gentrification in New York, London & Paris: An international comparison. – Juliet Carpenter & Loretta Lees
  • This article compares gentrification in New York, Paris & London. It analyzes the stages that the gentrified neighborhoods go through & trying to find if there are prerequisites for the process of gentrification. It compares the differences in the places that will be studied & also look at the various evolutionary processes in each city that led to the same result. I will use this information to compare how gentrification affects various places.
    •
  • Gentrification and Urban Displacement Surrounding Fordham University’s Bronx CommunityRyan Fleites Dr. Naison
    • This paper talks about whether people in The Bronx fear gentrification due to their proximity to Fordham University. It shows that The Bronx is going through gentrification & displacement & the biggest contributor is Fordham University. It goes into the history of The Bronx, specifically the Northwest part which includes Belmont, Fordham & Bedford Park. Goes into demographics & interviews of people who reside in such places. My project will probably rely heavily on this paper due to my interests lying in Belmont.
  • Does gentrification displace poor children and their families? New evidence from medicaid data in New York City- Kacie Dragan, Ingrid Gould Ellen & Sherry Glied
    • This paper talks about the effects & links between gentrification & low income kids. Further delves into the study of it but also talks about how kids in low income areas usually move to places similar.
      • I will use this paper to talk about the effects that gentrification has on the younger population & maybe try to draw some conclusions.
  • The Right to Stay Put, Revisited: Gentrification and Resistance to Displacement in New York City -Kathe Newman and Elvin K. Wyly

    – I will use this paper to further explain the effects of gentrification on NYC as a whole & how this situation is going down in NY.

  • What Makes Gentrification ‘Gentrification’? -P.A Redfern

This dives into what gentrification actually is & how people view others that are for it. It also talks about the demand that revolves around gentrification. Taking this whole ordeal seriously. This will be used in my paper to contribute with my explanation of what it is & how others view it.
