Crime has always been a thing in New York’s streets but it used to be a bit less violent than it is now. People rather use guns, knives, and other methods to achieve their criminal acts and cause harm to someone. Growing up in Jackson Heights, Queens, I saw the neighborhood go from a place where you were able to walk freely without any type of issue to a place where people would stop you to check if you were in a gang and if you knew someone they had problems with or even get to the point they tried fighting you for the smallest unreasonable things. Today in 2023, gangs have gained a lot of presence wherever you go in the Queens borough, and depending on the area, you will see different types of things and sense a different type of environment. Whenever there are gang assaults or groups that commit a criminal act together, usually the outcome is more violent than usual due to the fact that those trying to impress each other on who is the worst or who is the most reckless to gain some type of respect and admiration from others. Today’s society in Queens really need some type of order because if there is no order than neighborhoods like Jackson Heights will start to see incredible crime increase more than what there is now.
