Summary
Topic: The impact of drug abuse and the major concerns in the Great Kills community
Research Question: How has drug use in Great Kills impacted the community itself?
The reason that I picked this topic is that I have seen how badly drug use has affected many people in New York, especially Staten Island. Although the town of Great Kills is not the only town to have so, it has a bad reputation because of the drug use around drug stations, especially at night. It is also a train stopover from where I live so it hits close to home. Not only that but it has affected both people I know and myself included. I know we have been harassed on multiple occasions not only from just communication but also from jumping, hearing about people getting stabbed and held at gunpoint, and the police having to patrol the train stations at night so people can walk home safely at night. Not only are there problems with drugs but also they're drunk people who roam those areas at night because there is a bar right by the train station as well. It is a main concern that I believe needs to be addressed because there isn't always a police officer there to help.
