Joseph Roy Metheny’s case makes people feel sick to their stomachs and Joe’s words describing himself, he claimed “I’m a very sick person” yet he loved killing sex workers and the homeless. Talking about his crimes makes you feel like the next time you order a burger, you might want first to see if it’s only cow meat.
Joe didn’t have a great childhood; he was neglected by an alcoholic father and a mother who was addicted to drugs. His mother had to work as a sex worker to support six children including Joe. In 1973, when he was 19 years old he joined the army and it’s hard to believe a 6’1 man weighing about 450 pounds, you don’t assume him to be a former army or a murderer.
After getting out of the Army, he worked as a truck driver and made himself a living, got himself a girlfriend and a son. One day, when arriving home after a long day of work Joe’s girlfriend left out of the house with her kid to live with a different man. With rage, Joe got back into his vehicle and searched for his family. Day after day every half-build house and checking under the bridge where Joe’s girlfriend would usually be doing drugs, no sight of his family but two homeless men.
He knew right away that these men knew his girlfriend and asked where she was but they didn’t know where she went off so Joe killed the two men with an ax. There was a fisherman nearby and Joe was scared he saw what he had done so he killed him. After half a year of being in prison due to killing 2 homeless men, he was free due to lack of evidence.
After being released from prison he goes on a path with revenge and killing. He murders victims who are titled sex workers and vagabonds (people who go from place to place without a permanent home) but it wasn’t easy after every kill. It was too much trouble and risky to throw away the body in places that could easily be found so he came up with a sickening and disturbing idea. Making human meat into burgers.
He did this by grabbing beef and pork mixed with his victim’s fresh and forming it into patties, eating is one revolting action but selling burgers to people with the special meat is just losing touch with reality. Joe owned a truck and sold patties to everyone who wanted a bite and surprisingly nobody could tell they were eating human flesh. Joe said, “The human body tastes exactly like pork”. Every time he gets low on meat, he goes hunting victims to make his business go. You could say this revenge he had evolved into pleasure.
To end this sickening story a victim named Rita Kemper escaped the hands of Joe and soon Joe was arrested for the attempt of murder. During court and confesses to all 10 killings he did in his past, explaining every detail. He said in court that he would let God judge him and send him off to hell and his only regret was not killing his ex-girlfriend and the bastard who took her. In 2017 he was pronounced dead assuming that all the drugs he did and the fact he was obese finally caught up to him.
