Over the past 2 weeks i’ve been monitoring The New York Times , with the hopes of getting a better idea of what crimes are being reported. What I found for lack of better words was shocking. While there’s many various types of crime being reported from manslaughter to sexual assault the majority of the crimes within the last week seem to be related to gun violence and corruption. While I expected there to be a lot of gun related crimes I had no idea the amount of corruption going on within the US currently. Day one , I found out that our Mayor (Adams) was in the middle of a scandal in which an Ex NYPD officer alleges he funneled donations to the original campaign of the mayor while purposefully hiding where the donations had came from. Day two , A major developer was arrested because he conspired to steal millions of dollars from his investors. By day five , corruption took a backseat as I seen an article about the 15 year old who shot the tourist was finally caught and arrested. The gun epidemic in New York has gotten so bad , minors are able to get ahold of them. Day eight , was rather interesting. While I still consider it apart of the gun epidemic , you don’t really expect to see officers shooting people in their own homes. While this time it may have been justified if he truly did have an imitation weapon it just becomes hard to keep seeing gun crimes be reported and lives lost. Finally by day 11 I was pooped, The fbi , searched the homes of fire department chiefs , under suspicion they were involved in a scheme which saw them accepting illegal payment in exchange for building inspections. All in all, over the past two weeks these where the crimes that I kept running into repeatedly , while i’m unsure if the corruption is truly prominent or being pushed in some type of agenda its interesting that it happens so often in my opinion it keeps up with the gun reports.
