Living in a city can be a good and a bad thing. It can be a bad thing, because everyone and everything is so close to each other, that something is bound to happen. It can also be a good thing because of how accessible things are, you walk down the block there is a grocery store and a supermarket, you walk down that same block and there’s a bus stop. I live in the Bronx, where it can get nasty real quick, but the community has put together a couple of crime preventions that I have noticed walking around my community
One example of crime prevention is the light pole. The light pole can prevent crime, because of how it illuminates the area, if the area is illuminated it is safe to assume there could be cameras around watching you; therefore, it would be a smart thing to not commit any crimes where there is light illuminated at. When light is being illuminated at you, it can also be easy to recognize someone and get a clear shot of their face. The light pole has certainly deterred crime.
The NYPD light pole. Now this can be key to stop crime in that specific area. It can be key, because it basically warns criminals that there is police presence around. It would be best to not even look at someone the wrong way. It is usually lit, but for some reason it is not. When you see one of these in an area you better believe that area has a crime rate. This is instrumental in having criminals think twice before committing a crime.
Posted road signs. Posted road signs is an indicator that you are around a school zone, and should not be speeding. This is great for crime prevention. It is great for crime prevention, because it helps people not to speed, They also give you a warning that it is photo enforced, so if you do speed around this area you will get a hefty ticket, and not only that you could even possibly get points on your license which is never a good thing.
The bosses of all bosses, when it comes to crime prevention. Police presence. Right down the block there is a precinct. This is number one ins preventing crime. There are not a lot of people who will sit here and commit a crime right in front of a police officer that is just ludicrous. A precinct prevents crime just with the fact that if anything were to happen you will have an abundance of officers rushing to the scene, waiting to do something.
