News outlets will prioritize reporting on topics like drugs, murder, and political corruption due to how fast they catch the public's interest. These stories have details that intrigue the audience and also makes readers want to come back for updates. For example what happened with ocean gate, the news stations had a live countdown of how much oxygen the submarine had and people were talking about it crazy all over social media. Although the other topics are still being put out, the three topics i mentioned are the most interest grasping for readers and at the end of the day, everything is a business. The media knows they will make more money off those topics and their daily customer interaction will grow.
