Short assignment #3

After listening to the podcast about Tommy Shakur Ross I learned Tommy had a rough upbringing. From a young age Tommy shakur ross had problems in different schools all his life. Tommy also had been involved in gangs and was in and out the jail system. A theory I would choose to explain Tommy Shakur Ross upbringing would be the social disorganization theory. I think this theory relates to Tommy because of his surroundings and how he grew up. Tommy grew up in South central los angeles. The neighbordhood he grew up in was known for having high crimes rates and high in poverty. This was all Tommy Shakur Ross ever knew. Since this is all he knew he ended up falling down the wrong path. Growing up in a environment where their was lack of resources, Lack of having a strong community, good role models, and stable families played a role for Tommy younger self to be hindered in life. Not having positive resources to go to is what led Tommy into gang activity. This shows how the social disorganization theory plays a role on how a person will become and what path they will go down in life. This theory suggest that neighborhooods who are disadvantaged in resources and the way your environment is and the relationships your community holds will predict your outcome on the person who you become. If Tommy Shakur Ross had grew up in a  positive community with no gang violence he most likely wouldn’t have made the bad decisions he did in the past.
