Assignment #2

Samuel Plimsoll

CRJ 102-0501

In my neighborhood of the East Village, the security is very similar to other areas of New York City, with police patrols and speed cameras on the stop lights that catch the occasional reckless driver. When I think of things put in place to prevent or lower crime, I struggle for ideas. That could be because, firstly, I’m not looking to commit any crimes, but that is likely the purpose of the crime solutions or technologies is expected to be not overly visible. Installing LinkNYC outlets on many corners of NYC is also a good outlet for those who may be subject to a crime, as they can contact authorities or others for help.

First, LinkNYC, pictured below, allows anyone free of charge to call 911 for emergency help or dial any phone number. It also provides a charging port and Wi-Fi connection if you need it. The downside, however, is that, like almost everything on the streets of New York City, it gets filthy fast; regardless, it could be instrumental in crime prevention.

Secondly, the occasional patrol from NYPD in my neighborhood lowers crime as their presence deturs potential crimes. Recently, the NYPD has decided to revamp their patrol car design. They have incorporated a modernized vehicle with a constant 360 camera that can record and a new look with a more capable car. This increase in unmarked police cars also plays a significant role in combating criminal behavior on city streets.
