Looking around my neighborhood and the surrounding areas around it, it is clear that there are lots of different forms and preventions of criminal activity. Wether it be a bank or just a street, prevention and deterrence of situational crime will be found. The first photo is of a police station that is in my neighborhood. Being near a police station is in itself a crime deterrence since criminals would be worried about any police officers walking around or cop cars driving around which would create problems for any illegal plans they are thinking of doing. Looking at the station itself, It is clear that the bright lights along with cameras and having cops frequently stroll by would deter any criminal from even thinking about doing anything by the station. Another thing I noticed is that since all of the marked and unmarked cop cars are parked outside of the station, the chances of them being stolen is pretty much 0. The second photo is of a bank that is a couple blocks away from my house that I frequently use. There are many things on the inside along with the outside that can help prevent and deter any criminals. Some important elements include lots of cameras on the inside and outside, along with a security guard that works there during the day. During the night, the only way to enter the bank to access the atm is to have a card that is associated with the bank and scan it in order to open the door. This way, there is a lower chance that random people or thieves will enter the bank at night. Another factor is the fact that the bank is located beside a busy boulevard that has cars and trucks driving on it pretty much 24/7 which Is something that would deter thieves and have them most likely look at easier banks to target since the thought of having people see you commit crime or be suspicious is enough for most people to think twice. The third picture is of a street camera that is set up to catch and take pictures of cars or other motor vehicles in order to punish people who speed above the speed limit of 25 mph. This is just one of many street cameras which can be practically located everywhere nowadays. It is designed to prevent people from speeding in traffic and pedestrian heavy areas since the risk of getting tickets stops most people from even thinking about speeding. The last picture was taken outside of a water treatment plant in my neighborhood. Clearly the element that sticks out is the giant wall and metal gate along with cameras.The thought of having to scale a giant wall and then being seen on camera is usually more than enough to stop criminal activity. Since the plant is in a secluded area that is not surrounded by cars and people, It must rely on other but similar tactics of crime deterrence which in this case is a wall. This just shows how location Is also a big part as to how places and businesses will prepare themselves for any criminals or illegal trespassers.
