Streetlights prevent crime in my neighborhood and throughout NYC because illumination may merely drive thieves to operate a few streets away where there is no more lighting. Most people believe that there is a clear connection between lighting and crime: greater illumination will dissuade criminals who take advantage of cover from darkness. Better lighting increases the likelihood that offenders may be observed by someone who could intervene, phone the police, or recognize the perpetrator. Making friends with your neighbors and getting to know them on your block is an amazing way of preventing crime. The neighbor called him to say he left his windows opened and this prevented his car getting stolen or wrecked.

My dog named Teddy is always on my window in front of the house. Since my neighbors know we have a dog, he is always on the alert and only barks at things that are danger and senses danger. He is also a backyard dog. A dog can be the first line of defense in preventing theft because burglars like to target homes that are simple to get into. My neighbors are aware of how safe this home is. Dogs react much more quickly than people do, and they frequently take action right away when they notice anything strange. This quick move may be the difference between deterring an intruder and notifying you in time for you to get to safety and call the police.
