McGonigal, who was the FBI’s former director of counterintelligence in New York has plead guilty to conspiring to violate U.S sanctions and to laundering payments from a Russian oligarch. He was receiving payments from an Albanian Business man , who was a former intelligence agent he helped overseas with dealings. McGonigal took a plea deal which dropped 8 out of the 9 charges which carried 20 years each max.
