A fallacy is a mistaken belief, especially one based on an unsound argument.
The fallacy I chose for this week’s assignment is the Genetic fallacy. Genetic fallacies are judging whether something is good or bad on the basis of where it comes from or from whom it comes from. This is a rather common fallacy, I believe we see time and time again in politics. The example I chose is regarding the two popular news channels; CNN and Fox News. In general, CNN tends to be more left leaning, and Fox News tends to be more right leaning. Both Democrats and Republicans constantly criticize the two news sources as being bad or good, depending on where the news come from. If the news comes from CNN, we will notice more left leaning individuals agree with their standpoints, especially with presidential debates or political disputes between different politicians, but on the contrary, right leaning individuals will tell you it’s bad news and that it’s false what they are saying. They will most likely lean to Fox News for their sources and claim they give the good news. This is what I believe to be a perfect example of Genetic Fallacy because both parties are judging whether the news is good or bad depending on where it’s coming from.
