Summary
Dysfunctional Churches
I decided to go with option number three. On cold recovery 101, my topic choice was.
“Dysfunctional Churches (Cultic)”. Ronald M. Enroth, PhD, says “a healthy Church is
reconciling and restorative, not adversarial and endless”. Unfortunately, I understand this topic.
too well. “Dysfunctional Churches” exposes how we consider our Church’s family, but we do not
realize they can be just as bad for us. Although many may not believe it, spiritual and pastoral
abuse exists. Sadly, just as child abuse it can be denied and protected. Members usually respect
their pastor simply off of the strength that they hold the title. The world has forgotten that passes
are people too. They come with personal problems, mental health issues and so much more.
Those that desire control tend to have the worst results. These individuals crave submission just
as a man in a relationship. Some may even ask members some questions or push them to tell
all of their personal business with ill intentions, taking advantage of their title and the respect
and Trust members have allowed themselves to have for them. Just as we choose our friends.
and for some of us, our families, we should be careful choosing where we worship. I’ve learned
that passes can be “spiritual tyrants” . They can be given the job for what they have presented
but once the position comes, they can ruin it. I recently had this kind of experience and decided
to Branch out because I knew something was wrong. Church experience’s of what you want are
great until it becomes what it was never meant to be.
