In my opinion, critical thinking is the ability to widely comprehend various topics or ideas
while using one’s own personal understanding. Gary Meegan mentioned that there are “many
definitions” for the term critical thinking. Before defining critical thinking clearly himself, he
quotes Dr. Richardson Paul said; “critical thinking is an art of analyzing and evaluating thinking
with a view to improving it”. Gary says “thinking critically is an art”. He mentions that time and
required as well as practice in order to achieve critical thinking. “Critical thinking looks for
artifacts of reasoning, from how a person writes or talks or acts”.
Jesse Richardson begins by recommending that instead of telling adolescence what to think, we
should teach them. Jesse doesn’t necessarily define critical thinking however, he tells us to
“never trust critical thinking”. He tells us to ” never trust a brain, especially your own”. Thinking
critically requires creativity and Jesse’s opinion. “Critical thinking teaches us how to question
rigorously”. I would agree with Gary that art is involved. The mind allows us to have a more
meaningful and clearer picture of what it is to picture something. There could be “many
definitions” due to the idea that we all have unique brains. I would also agree with Jesse who
has a close definition. Creativity is just like art. Thinking deeper and allowing comfort in your
mind to create your best piece.
