I see cult as when group of people have beliefs that are unusual and follow sketchy rituals or activities. The leader or the association impose their thoughts on the members. They end up devoting those beliefs. Many people end up having depression, anxiety or any psychological disorder during and/or after leaving the cult. In the reading “Clinical Update on Cults” they mentioned cult involvement can cause major psychological distress or trauma. They successfully lure or manipulate people that are psychologically disturbed. They are very controlling, manipulative and limit your thought process. The ex-members are suggested to receive help or treatment. There’s a cult sensitive assessment where their emotional intelligence, academics, vocational skills are assessed to see its effects. They need family or social support the most, and are expected to learn how to deal with them. They need to seek mental health professionals or clinician who can help them evaluate and understand psychological manipulation that they have faced. They can help them in coping with their grief and trauma from cult experiences. People need to be careful and stay away from cults that can ruin you mentally.
