Summary

The black or white fallacy is commonly used by parents or authoritarian figures. The black or white way of thinking is used to make you believe when presented with 2 options that you have no other choices. To me, it may be considered an ultimatum which could be an example of black or white thinking because that's truly what it is, someone giving you two choices with no wiggle room to choose another making it seem as if you have no other choice. Parents or older parental figures often do this with their children when talking to them after they misbehave. I myself have practiced this fallacy multiple times when talking to my younger siblings and or cousins and trying to get them to behave. I would present them with two options, often one favorable and the other something that appeared as a consequence to aid me in getting them to behave. This fallacy has worked and been used thousands of times not just within our homes but within our school systems and our workplaces. While there are times where it is used to make a person feel cornered or pressured to choose an option of the person enforcing it.
