Barry Schwartz makes the case in "The Paradox of Choice" that while having more options may appear positive, the premise would be that it can really result in unhappiness with our decisions, and even depression. He contends that having too many alternatives may make it challenging for people to decide and may cause us to continually doubt our choices. The article I chose was "The Surprising Connection Between Money and Happiness," by Elizabeth Dunn and Michael Norton. In the article, they argue that money can indeed make us happier, but only up to a certain point. The author discussed that spending money on experiences and on others can have a higher influence on our total well-being which supports the premise. Altogether, both articles/ TED Talk implies that having too many options or too much money may actually make us unhappy. We should concentrate on making thoughtful decisions and using our money in ways that make us and others happy rather than aiming for ever more options or accumulating wealth. We can achieve greater life satisfaction and contentment in this way. Personally, I feel like I can indeed gain happiness from money even if it’s just temporary, knowing how to save that money to never become broke again is a skill that many like me need to learn in order to maintain that happiness.
