Summary
I am doing a response on the unfortunate massacre of 10 Black people in Buffalo at a supermarket Tops. I chose this piece because this nightmare occurred right next to Buffalo State College, a school I used to attend, and this was a supermarket I would make quick runs to. I believe bias is even contained in the titles; news articles choose to display this story. I cannot recall where I saw this, but on my phone, I came across a highlight of this story and what stuck out to me was the title “Buffalo shooter sentence for killing 10 Black people”. While I am aware that this was a terrorist attack by a white supremacist, I cannot help but wonder why that had to be the title, why black people can’t just be people and it makes me feel like this is Barnum effect. Each story begins to give a brief summary of the shooting that took place in a supermarket last year and then they all go straight into what happened at the court proceedings. AP News seems to use self-serving bias because they are including details, I did not see in the other two articles. They seem to be trying to create an angle of brainwashing, they say that the white supremacist is a victim of the internet and the hate he sees online when everyone sees it but they don’t react this way.

wow! i cant believe that it happened right next to your school and that you would go to that exact supermarket. i’m sorry to hear that this happened in a spot you’re very familiar with. i also wonder why they also have to find the need to specify what group of people they were, as they are still people and it shouldn’t matter.
