I chose the story about the school shooting that took place last year May 2022. The title is who or what is to blame for school shootings. This is covered by three sources fox news, market watch, and Huff post.
All three sources contained information on violence in America, public health, gun violence, gun control, and gun rights. These articles had information about the number of students as well as teachers killed and individuals who were injured during the shooting. This article is about Tuesday in Uvalde, Texas, an elementary school was attacked by a gunman, 18, who killed at least 21 people, including 19 children. On his 18th birthday, the alleged shooter bought the guns used. In a speech on Tuesday night, President Joe Biden questioned, “When in God’s name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?”
Biden and Democrats frequently blame guns, lax gun regulations, gun manufacturers, the National Rifle Association, and Republican politicians who oppose stricter gun control laws for mass killings, as do many liberals and people from different political perspectives. In contrast, The fox news source had more information compared to the other two articles. This was information on mental health and how it is connected to gun violence. a lot of conservatives and Others on all sides of the political spectrum tend to concentrate more on the shooters themselves and problems with morality and mental health among Americans, and they frequently criticize Democrats for supporting widespread gun control measures that could revoke law-abiding citizens’ right to bear arms under the Second Amendment. This source had a lot of subjective languages. This article was more biased since the main point was mental health. Chetha Sathya, a pediatric trauma surgeon and director of Northwell’s center for gun violence prevention headquarters in New Hyde Park NY mentions “People with mental health issues are more likely victims than perpetrators. Cassandra Crifasi, who is an associate professor in the department of health policy and management at John Hopkins Stated that researchers found out that gun violence restraining orders were issued after an individual made a clear declaration of intent to commit a mass shooting. Timely reports, this helped to reduce gun violence.
More gun control is frequently advocated by left-leaning voices as a means of reducing the number of mass shootings. Right-leaning viewpoints frequently emphasize individual accountability, appropriate gun ownership, good parenting, and education to which I agree.

I agree in some parts with both the right and left side. I understand why the left side wants more gun control especially in modern day, with such high statics of mass shootings in the US. The right side is correct when it comes to advocating for accountability, appropriate gun ownership and parenting/ education because even if people protest against gun use it is our second amendment right, and taking guns away is disobeying the constitution.
I believe this: “All constitutional rights have limitations; none is absolute.”
That’s why I don’t totally agree with the last part of my partner’s comment. From what I read, both sides have fundamental reasons, but if we think more, we see further and put ourselves in the shoes of the victims and the attacker (who can also be a victim). We can be logical and empathetic at the same time. In these times, there are more weapons and shootings than solutions. I am neither in favor nor against the use of firearms. I favor that each person who uses a gun must have permission for a physical and psychiatric check-up. That’s a lot to ask.
And we know it’s easier to get or get a gun than good, reliable life insurance.
All three sources discuss gun violence, gun control, and public health, But Fox News focuses on mental health. It’s fascinating to see how Democrats wants gun restrictions while Republicans focus on individual accountability. I disagree with you about leaning to the right side as I feel like not having guns at all is the best for the long term , I mean just look at countries where guns are illegal there are far less gun violence in those countries. At the end of the day gun control and gun violence is a controversial debate among Americans. Everyone can have their bias opinions , but I have to side with the left.
I liked that you paid attention to the mental health aspect of this problem. I believe mental health is one of the main causes of this kind of tragedy that keeps happening in this country. compared to other country Us seems to be struggling with school shootings the most and this might be a reason why. I believe it has to do with mental health and the school system. It is very important o pay attention to these aspects in order to fix this issue.
