Topic:Turkey Syria Earthquakes
This topic is about the earthquakes that happened in Turkey and Syria. These earthquakes caused a lot of damage and deaths to these countries. It talks about how a lot of nations helped contribute money for the aid of these countries.
Left side:”‘Secondary disaster’ looms as UN aid finally reaches survivors battling frozen conditions in Syria” is the title of this article. This article focuses more on describing how the people and countries were left after the earthquake. Also, how after the earthquake temperatures have spiked down insanely. Mentions how Syria was left damaged even more since they just got done with a civil war. It also creates a feeling of grief and sorrows adding images of the aftermath. This article doesn’t really mention any money or talk about the contributions of other nations, more about how these countries were impacted and how they are trying to get by.
Right Side: “U.S. Officials Send Earthquake Aid To Turkey, Joining International Support Response” is the title of the article. This article focuses more on how The U.S is helping Turkey and Syria by sending officials and giving money for their recoveries. It also mentions statistics on the injured and deaths caused by these earthquakes. The article also mentions other nations and how they’re helping. Just includes one image of how the earthquake left the country.
Center side:”US pledges $85m for Turkey-Syria earthquake relief” is the title of this article. This article is more factual it mentions how the US is giving Turkey and Syria 85million for aid and sending US troops.Mentions other nations and how they will help.Included an image of The US brining thousands of pounds of equipment to help aid Turkey-Syria. Also included a video of rescuers helping save little kids that were found stuck after the earthquake.
Overall, I would say all three articles included to mention the deaths and tragedies left from this earthquake in both Turkey and Syria. Something that is not mentioned in all three articles I would say is is the amount of money or aid that nations are giving to Turkey-Syria because of the earthquake. The left side, didn’t focus on the money they more focused on demonstrating how this earthquake left the country in shambles and how they’re trying to get by. The left side probably didn’t mention money because maybe their main goal is to educate people on what’s happening in the countries and the effect the earthquake caused. I definitely noticed some differential word choices between the right and left side because the right side focuses more on Turkey and Syria while the right side focuses on how the US is helping Turkey and Syria. I would say there was no leading or subjective language to favor one point of view because there is no debate to this topic, it’s just very factual and recent. I would say the right side is more bias, I say this because it seems like they care about this earthquake because the US is involved like giving money for aid and sending US troops.

Hi, Kimberly. I really like your posting, which is very well structured and detailed. You explained the focus of the left, right and center side of the article. You mentioned that the right side was more biased because they cared about the earthquake because the US was involved in the aid for the earthquake. That’s true. Some news and media outlets will intentionally report what they want us to know and ignore other facts, which can seriously affect our perception of things.
Hi!! Your analysis really makes sense! According to what you said, (left )feels like it is focusing on how Syria was destroyed, and it is more about discussing the real pictures of the incident and the real situation at that time. The impression given to readers is to describe the seriousness of natural disasters such as earthquakes, which arouses everyone’s thinking and sympathy. (right/center) are more about expressing how the United States or the world helps Syria, giving readers the feeling of expressing the feelings of other countries helping each other. It is true that news is sometimes related to politics. The faction of the news will affect the readers’ thinking, or the news will broadcast the part that is beneficial to the faction.thank~
Hello! Your analysis is very detailed and I strongly agree with you.In your analysis the left side just reports objectively the fact of the earthquake in Turkey and tells people about the effects of the earthquake on this country, while the middle and the right side both mention the US help to Turkey in this earthquake, such as money and military. I think journalists sometimes bring subjective ideas to spread their opinions and even confuse readers because of the news is sometimes linked to politics.
