Summary

When I watched the music video for the first time I didn't really understand what it was about
but after rewatching the music video I realised it was the background that told the story to the lyrics.

The "Formation" music video highlights several significant issues central to African Americans, including police brutality, feminism, black empowerment, and black identity. These themes are linked together to form a powerful and thought-provoking story that highlights the black community's ongoing and past difficulties.

"Matsoukas largely contributed to ensuring that Beyoncé's message was effectively delivered in the video. For example, the set design, she specifically looked for a venue that resembled a plantation house. She even went so far as to rent a museum and deliberately style it to achieve the desired vibe or "Blackify:. She also hired an experienced camera crew, including people who had previously worked on projects highlighting black culture and history."

"I twirl on them haters, albino alligators," for example, is a case of verbal irony. In this scenario, it describes their hateful attitude toward their "haters" by using a playful and seemingly cheerful image (twirling on albino alligators) albino alligators can be seen as rare animals implying that haters are rare and not seen as a threat. “Earned all this money but they never take the country out of me I got hot sauce in my bag swag” This shows Beyoncé being proud of her race through euphemisms

I think the music video can be seen as controversial because it can be seen as a attack that goes against the government and the police system.
