Summary

Critical thinking is the process of evaluating information critically in order to reach a reliable judgement or conclusion. It entails assessing the veracity and dependability of the information using logic, reason, and evidence.

Richard Paul and Jesse Richardson both agree that critical thinking is essential for both developing one's own independent opinions and evaluating the veracity of other people's viewpoints. In the digital age, when it is crucial to verify the accuracy of information and draw reliable conclusions from ideas and arguments, they underline the need for critical thinking. Although developing critical thinking abilities requires time and work, they are crucial for broadening one's perspective and for making well-informed judgments. I agree with Jesse Richardson and Richard Paul that one must first think independently before reaching out to consider other people's perspectives. In my personal experience, anytime I engage in a discussion, I tend to rely more on my feelings than reason and supporting data and that's the reason why critical thinking will be something I look forward to improving on.

After watching both videos I believe Critical thinking is defined and viewed differently by each individual. Critical thinking cannot be right or incorrect since anyone can use logic and evidence to establish an opinion on any subject, and because alternate viewpoints will always exist and be used to refute your reasons and logic. This suggests that we will probably argue and dispute a lot about each other's claims in this class. Maybe these arguments will improve our critical thinking abilities.
