Labor Day Weekend-No Class Tomorrow

Hello All,

There is no class tomorrow, Saturday September 5th, due to the Labor Day weekend.

Please remember to post your response to the Introduce Yourself discussion board and respond to at least one peer by 11:59 p.m. tonight. You have to post both the introduction and the response to get full points for this task.

Before our next class on September 12th, please read the David Sedaris piece and the Gloria Anzaldua piece in the Readings section. There are also audio and video versions there for your convenience.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Regards,

Yolande

Welcome to English 101 Fall 2020

Illustrated Interpretation of our Course

Hello Scholars!

Welcome to English 101 for the Fall Semester 2020 at BMCC!

I’m so excited to meet you and share with you our wonderful texts for this semester. Our theme for this semester is IDENTITY. We will look at readings by authors including Zadie Smith, Chimamanda Adichie, and David Sedaris. I hope you will love them as much as I do.

In this English Composition class, you will have three main essays, and one final exam. As well as writing essays, we will explore other ways to express our ideas. You will have options to use video, audio, visual art, or performance to present some of the assignments.

Your voices are important in this class. Every class includes a students’ choice section, so please be ready to share your ideas.

Our first online meeting is on Saturday August 29th at 8 a.m. You can get there by clicking this link: English Composition. Please take a moment to look at the syllabus, and write down any questions you might have for our first meeting. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. You can email me at ybrener@bmcc.cuny.edu, or text me at 917-650-0515.

See you in class!
