RETENTION

  1. What do you think is the most demotivating part of Harper’s job?

The most demotivating part of Harper’s job is that she has. always loved working. for this company but her having to take on so much work is making her stressed to the point she can’t manage to balance work and her life and although she loves the company they aren’t recognizing all extra work that’s she doing.

  1. If you were an HR manager meeting with Harper’s supervisor, David, what advice would you give to help them re-engage Harper?

It’s great David manages the whole team but as a HR manager I would advice David to find someone to finally take the role of Jose because this is the huge issue causing so much stress to others. David should communicate more with Harper since she is the one that took in some of Jose’s responsibilities and should keep her informed of things that are happening in the company. Harper should also be given a raise since she was given more work that wasn’t her responsibilities before.

  1. What would be the downside of losing Harper as an employee?

The downside of losing Harper as an employee is that they would need to look for two different employees to fill in for Harper and Jose. This would also cause the company to be backed up in their work having to take on two employees responsibilities. They are losing an employee who honestly loved her job and worked well as a team. Harper was a great asset to this company she has been there for 4 years she has gained so much knowledge and experience in helping managing the company, she know how to do her work well. Finding an employee just like her will take time.

Target

I decided to choose Target since I always shop there. Target is very convenient for me because it has clothes, food, electronics, medicine and so much more. Target is one of the largest retail corporations. Target has been giving 5% of their profits to communities for education services. Targets code of ethics applies to every team member no matter what their positions are, and they aspect them to be followed. They feel if the codes aren’t being followed it can ruin their reputation. Target wants to be a diverse company they participate in career fairs and with agencies to hire diverse team member. They except everyone to treat each other with respect no matter their differences. But Target has had problems with diversity in their executives and corporate positions. Target tries to provide great quality when it comes to their food and products. They make sure their business partners are applying laws to meet their standards of safe and reliable products, so they are picky with the partners they choose. As well they make sure they aren’t selling expired or damaged foods because they don’t want to sell products that would harm their costumer’s. The CEO of target wants to co-create a more equitable and regenerative future. They want to “design and elevate sustainable brands ->Innovate to eliminate waste -> Accelerate opportunity and equity.” They have made their products out of recycled materials. By 2030 they want all their electricity from renewable sources since they think it’s better for the planet and the people. These are some examples “By 2040, we plan for 100% of our owned brand products to be designed for a circular future. We will continue designing to eliminate waste, using materials that are regenerative, recycled or sourced sustainably, to create products that are more durable, easily repaired or recyclable. By 2040, we commit to being a net zero enterprise – zero waste to landfill in our U.S. operations and net zero emissions across both our operations and supply chain, inclusive of scopes 1, 2 and 3.” Target does not tolerate child labor. I do think target is doing a great job expect for the facts they don’t have much diversity when it comes to their executives and corporate positions.

The Founder

  • The brothers had made so many risky decisions before having a successful business. Which is why they didn’t want to expand because they felt comfortable and knew nobody would run the business like how they do. They were happy with what they had since in the past they had many business that didn’t work out. Ray was a salesman, he knew from the start that McDonald’s had so much potential which is why he wanted to be involved. He was willing to risk it all for the company. He felt that the brothers were close minded when it came to business.
  • I think they did right selling their company to Ray. Ray was already making so many decisions without their constant, people didn’t really have any knowledge of the brothers, everyone thought that Ray was the founder and he was already acting like he was. They probably could’ve been left with nothing if they didn’t sell. Ray didn’t give the brothers a good deal, they received their 1 million each but never received their 1 percent since it was never documented in a contract.
  • The speedee system helped the franchisees to make money. The speedee system helped them serve their so many customers quickly, People went up to the window and told them their order and then they quickly got their food. They didn’t have to wait a long time like in other restaurants. The more food they served the more profit they made.
  • Ray started to realize that he wasn’t making so much money because of how the contacted was structured. He then met Harry who told him he would start making more money if he bought the land where they wanted the business and then later lease the land to the franchise. Ray made profits because of Real Estate and the franchisees made profit because of their food.
  • It didn’t change my views on McDonalds but it was definitely was an eye opener. You shouldn’t fully trust people that you make business with. Everything should always be in a contract never take someones word for it. Maybe greedy decisions will always make you money ? maybe not. But in this situation greediness did win.
