Overview

  • JPMC plans to select 10-13 participants from the Summer Bridge to join as apprentices.
  • The apprenticeship will begin Summer 2023; participants will plan to graduate in Summer 2024
  • Apprentices will earn 8 credits, taking the place of three courses required for the business management major
  • The workplace-based curriculum will have the same Learning Outcomes as the courses that are being replaced, adjusted to match job roles.

Goals and Outcomes

  • Increase graduation rates of low-income students and students of color; Address inequities in career preparation and development
  • Increase employment, short-term, and lifetime earnings by providing valuable skills and knowledge demanded by financial services employers
  • Improve attainment and retention of student learning objectives by applying skills and knowledge gained in the classroom to the workplace
  • Build professional skills including professionalism, communication, critical thinking, teamwork, and technology
  • Cultivate professional relationships and networks

Requirements

  • Demonstrated strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a drive to learn
  • Successfully completed the Summer Bridge
  • Earned at least 40 credits with an advisor-approved plan to graduate by the Summer of 2024 (preferred)
  • Not have taken any of BUS 210, BUS 220, CED 361/365/301
  • >2.0 GPA, in good academic standing
  • Ability to work in-person in New York City
  • Work authorization in the US
  • Intention to work full-time after the apprenticeship
  • BUS and LIB majors preferred

The Experience

  • Participants will work at JPMC in the Corporate Investment Bank’s (CIB) Market Operations group in the New York Metro Area for one year, beginning August, 2023
  • Apprenticeships are 32 hours per week, paid, with benefits
  • Include authentic work experiences contributing to the mission of the business and linked to student learning objective(s) for each replaced course (see syllabi for BUS 210 (3 credits), BUS 220 (3 credits), CED 361 (2 credits).
  • Register for BUS 210, BUS 220, CED 361 according to this pathway. (Note that if JPMC terminates an apprentice, the apprentice must withdraw from the course.)
  • Apprentices will take courses necessary to graduate by the Summer of 2024
  • Apprentices will create a portfolio of their work experiences that evidence the achievement of learning objectives for each course. Apprentices will meet weekly with Professor Brett Whysel to ensure progress toward meeting the learning objectives for each course.
  • Please check with the financial aid office for possible effects on your package and inquire about aid for part-time study
  • JPMC will consider making permanent job offers to successful apprentices
  • Apprentices are strongly encouraged to pursue four-year degrees part-time, with JPMC support.
