Creating accessible courses and materials is often an afterthought, but integrating a few basic practices before the semester begins can be a first step towards ensuring that all students can engage with course materials on the first day of class. With awareness and preparation, you can design materials, assignments, and classroom experiences that support learners with diverse abilities, needs, and interests, fostering a classroom environment where all students can thrive.
In this workshop, we’ll introduce the foundational concepts and practices that you need to create accessible Word documents, PDF files, PowerPoint presentations, and multimedia. We’ll also discuss how you can use the Ally accessibility checker in Brightspace to review materials that you have already included in your courses. Please bring course materials or questions that you would like to share and discuss with the group.
