This was a very interesting lecture. I love the complex use of geometry to create the tesselations. I would like to look into that subject more. It was also very amazing to hear the Alhambra was created by a single ratio. I want to know more about sacred ratios. My question is where does one start when developing new shapes for tesselations?

One thing that stood out to me in this Lecture is The Taj Mahal , it is truly something and imagine how much work was put into this beautiful shimmering white color almost looks like a crystal and fulled with rich history and many tales of royal’s and upper class people that lived in there . I would love to learn more about this type of art.

Something I found interesting about the lecture for today was the story about the Taj Mahal and how it may have been built from love. The story that his wife died after giving birth to his 14th child, which led him into a great depression and mourning period. He called upon many people to help build this beautiful tower that is now known as the Taj Mahal.

The lecture was interesting. Islamic art is fascinating and the use of domes and arches makes it seem elegant. From the lecture, I learned that Taj Mahal’s architecture was inspired by Islamic art. Taj Mahal is such a beautiful mausoleum and it was commissioned by the emperor in memory to his dead wife revealing such a romantic story.

The lecture was really interesting and logical, I was amazed to hear the story of Taj Mahal. When I was young I read about the Taj mahal in my History class. I didn’t know that the Taj Mahal was inspired by islamic art. The art of the white building is really astonishing to me, I want to know if there are more buildings available like this in different countries.

One thing that was interesting about this lecture was that the dome from the church was so big that the Statue of Liberty can fit in it. Being said it must’ve been big then. Also is how it reduces stress , decrease weight and passes light throughout the dome as well how it represented the heavens. One question i have is how does it represent the dome represent the heavens?.

Something that I found interesting in the lecture was the story of Taj mahal. The Taj Mahal was built as a tomb for Mumtaz Mahal by her husband, the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. She died in childbirth in 1631, after having been the emperor’s inseparable companion since their marriage in 1612. The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum complex in Agra, western Uttar Pradesh state, northern India. It is considered the finest example of Mughal architecture (a blend of Indian, Persian, and Islamic styles). The Taj Mahal is also one of the world’s most iconic monuments, visited by millions of tourists each year. The Taj Mahal is built of white marble that reflects hues according to the intensity of the sunlight or the moonlight. It also feels good to know about the masterpiece.

The lecture was very interesting and was able to learn a lot about the Islamic architecture and art as well. The one thing that always capture my attention is the architecture of other cultures for they’re always very unique and it also includes math as a math major. The dome that was mention of the church was said to be huge enough that the statue of liberty can fit inside which is incredible. The only thing i can think of is how long and man power it took to build that.

The most interesting aspect of the material is the layers of history within each site and its features. The Haga Sophia, for example, would be considered one of the most significant sites for the Abrahamic religions because of its role from the time of the Romans to the fall of the Ottoman Empire. The changes made to the former cathedral remind me of the Taj Mahal because of its Islamic origin under the Mughal Empire, and how today it is the symbol of India, a predominantly Hindu country.
As someone who enjoys history, I would only want to research more about the struggle for power and combined influence of religion and politics in regions like the Middle East, the Iberian Peninsula, and the area surrounding the Mediterranean.

What I found to be the most interesting aspect of Islamic art in the lecture was the usage of geometric design and Islamic architecture. The Hagia Sophia is so beautiful I wish I could see. more of it. Its interesting to me to be able to see remnants of the catholic church it once was still on the walls. I like how the building was able to be a place of worship for so long. Especially being two separate religions. I didn’t know that you shouldn’t depict people in Islamic art and that is why there is so much use of geometric design and botanic features. In the Hagia Sophia you can see the distinctions in the religious remnants really clearly.

This lecture was fascinating to learn about Islamic culture. What interested me the most is the Dome which represents Heaven. $1,8 billion with all of those treasures, no wonder its scenery looks so beautiful with lights and so many windows. So many decorative patterns with geometric shapes to make good designs on walls and floors as well.

After this lecture I learned a lot about the Islamic architecture. This the first time I know about this structure called the pencil minarets outside the Hagia Sophia.

It interesting to learn how signifiant Buildings are in Islamic art. The money that are invested in places of worship are astounding! I admired the architectural skills of the builders especially the Alhambra, the calligraphy and geometrical style creates something out of this world. One thing that puzzled me are the sculptures of lions in the Alhambra since it would be considered idolatry.
