Cutout Sketch
This is a cutout and sketch of a character that I designed for MEA 211. The character is a living flame. When designing the character, I wanted to make them silly and energetic looking. I also wanted to use simple triangles to design the face, which gives them a of jack-o-lantern sort of feel, and to contrast the more random and sporadic flame parts. I made the arms and legs very thin and tube-like without any joints to go along with their flame form, and making them look light weight while contrasting their round center form. After sketching, I made the character in Adobe Illustrator as a silhouette and used the form to cut it out on orange paper using a machine.
