  1. What I learned about the Middle East in the article “Arab and Other Middle Eastern Americans” was that 2018 was an important year for the Arab and Middle Eastern community because Rashida Tlaib was the first Palestinian American to be chosen as a member of congress, which showed growth in political participation.

2. In the video “Misconception of Middle Eastern Culture and Religion I’ve learned that the Middle East is very diverse and not every Middle Eastern believes in the same religion. I’ve also learned that it is comprised of 18 countries, 5 major languages, 20 minority languages and 17 different ethnic groups.

3. “Literacy Reform in the Middle East” talked about how large countries have the highest literacy rate of literacy and the smallest countries have the lowest rate of literacy. An example of this is when the article mentions that Morocco, Sudan, and Algeria each have at least 30 million of total population, and all 3 countries together make up 32 percent of the Arab world, and there is 37 million illiterate adults in all three countries combine.

4. My source relating to this topic is “Literacy in the Middle East”. This video addresses issues in the Middle East. An issue that was shown was children in Saudi Arabia are taught to read in a different language other then the one they use at home, which causes them to lose interest in reading. Another issue the video addresses is that Saudi Arabia is an oral society, and it is more important for them to speak properly rather then reading. I chose this source because because it has a lot of information about the literacy issues and practices in a specific Middle Eastern country.
