Feedback on week 5/ African + Indian and Alaskan Perspectives

Dear ACR 150 Students,

Thank you for participating in the “double perspective” experiment–how did it go? Do you feel like you’ve learned something about the other group’s assigned perspective from our discussion board? If you’re hungry for more, you can, of course, review all course materials for week 5. On my end, I truly appreciated the collaborative spirit of your work for this week. You became experts on one of the perspectives, you contributed your own source about this topic, and then you shared your knowledge with the class. I also appreciated so many of you sharing your own stories, ideas and incidents, frequently related to discrimination, that you were able to relate to. The more we acknowledge this discrimination, the more tools we obtain to fight against it.

On a more practical note, a few of you did not reply to a classmate, and hence lost 30/100 points for the DB. If you forget to reply, how can you make sure to remember the next time around? Have a checklist on your phone? On a piece of paper? Whatever works! This is a key element in this class, seeing what others have to say and conversing with them.

I hope that your work on the oral history project is going well. Has everyone interviewed their subject by now? Time to review your notes and submit the project by the end of week 6/ March 10th. I look forward to reading and listening to your reflections.

Best wishes,

Prof. Barnes
