Summary
Literacy is the ability to read and write proficiently. Based on my research, literacy is a key to success for not only finding a career or being able to participate in school but to be able to understand the world around us and learn from its mistakes. I looked through the web and I learned that literacy is all things that life has for us once we enter this world.
According to my experiences in communities that I have encountered including my own, the video by John Triachitti is fairly right. I can say literacy is the way of life. Observing the introduction of the video John Triachitti had started speaking about the top health issues of the world, he had pointed out that these problems can not be solved because they do not have a cure, but if people learned how to communicate well, illiteracy could be washed away. In other words, if people were taught to read and write efficiently (literacy) it will play a big role in solving these issues that we’re facing at this very moment.
He specifically defined literacy as a tool because he agrees with the fact that we need it in order to reduce illiteracy which is affecting people all around the globe and like he said it has a cure, the other diseases he mentioned do not. I agree with what he has said because I also think that the ability of problem solving can have a huge impact in someone’s else’s life.
