Part 1/ Introduction

In my essay I will be responsible for finding interesting facts about a Native American in the U.S and I will be going deep about their education level “meaning Education system” and using what I learn to make connection with literacy. But before I get started I would like to talk a little about Native American. The term “Native American” describes a diverse group of indigenous peoples in North, Central, and South America. The term is also used to describe people who have lived in North America since before European settlement. And in addition and also to point out there are over five million Native Americans in the United States, representing hundreds of tribal nations with diverse languages, cultures, and traditions. Native Americans have lived on this continent since time immemorial. The United States continues to recognize the unique political status and relationship of tribal nations. In general, today’s Native American groups are sovereign within their territory with respect to tribal members, but lack authority over non tribal members. Native American self-determination movements have resulted in positive changes to the lives of many Native Americans, though there are still many contemporary issues faced by them.

Zoom in:

In this essay I will be focusing on every aspect of the Native American in the U.S but I will mostly focus on the important parts like Culture, Language and ceremony because from what I understand these four things are very important to them. Native Americans have been on this continent for thousands of years, and their cultures are rich and complex. Writing about Native Americans can help you learn about the history of your own country and the people who lived here before you. There are many different Native American tribes, each with its own unique culture. Writing about Native Americans can help you learn about different ways of life and different perspectives on the world. Understand that native american tribes celebrations, rituals, hunting, farming, storytelling took place within a distinct place or region of land and was shaped by the land.

Introduce your topic:

Writing about Native Americans can help to dispel stereotypes and provide accurate portrayals of Indigenous cultures. Native American literature can also reflect the culture, history, and contemporary issues of Indigenous people. Native Americans have a rich culture and history that spans thousands of years. Their cultures are diverse and unique, and they have made significant contributions to American society in areas such as art, music, literature, and science. And I choose this because it will give me and my classmates the chance to know what we do not know about Native American.

Research methods.

Doing some internet research and asking questions to elderly people to get some information about the Native American in the U.S.

Part 2

Present your evidence.

  • Languages. Native Americans spoke more than 300 languages. Native American languages have borrowed words from Dutch, English, French, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish. Native American languages have contributed words to European languages, especially names for plants, animals, and native culture items.
  • Traditions. Native American culture is known for its rich oral tradition. Instead of using a written language to document their history, these indigenous people relied on their verbal language to share their history, customs, rituals, and legends through vivid narratives.

Explain your evidence.

  • Language is a key part of Native American culture and identity. Native American culture areas were defined by geographical regions, each with its own language. For example, the Navajo and Apache spoke languages from the Athabaskan language family in the Southwest culture area.
  • Native American culture is known for its rich oral tradition. Histories, stories, and religious rites were passed down through the spoken word. Tribe members told stories about myths, legends, customs, and history orally.

Part 3:

Explain:

This project is described as “Hegemonic” because the Native Americans are colonizers to justify their power and maintain subordinate roles for others. The United States has an exploitative relationship with tribes, which is known as imperialism. The clearest example of imperialism in US history is the treatment of Native people. The federal government’s policy towards the Indians shifted from relocating them to assimilating them into the American ideal. Indians were given land in exchange for renouncing their tribe, traditional clothing, and way of life. Native Americans are among the most socioeconomically marginalized groups in American society.

Part 4:

I will be doing my connection from African + American Indian and Alaskan Native Perspectives Activity 7. Africans and their descendants have a history of cultural exchange with Native Americans. Africans and Native Americans are both legitimate and illegitimate formed alliances and allegiances during slavery and as fellow citizens in self-determination within tribal nations.

Part 5:

So? Why should we care?

We should care about these people because Indigenous people played a significant role in the history of the Americas. Many of these historically important events and developments in the Americas shaped the modern world. Providing an American Indian context to history makes for a greater understanding of world history. Indigenous peoples have a special relationship with the land on which they have lived for generations. They possess crucial knowledge about how to manage natural resources sustainably. Native Americans serve in the United States Armed Forces at higher rates than any other ethnic group. Despite centuries of violence and oppression, Native peoples remain resilient and proud. We can learn from Native American culture that there is life beyond the individual person and we belong to a collective universe that is dynamic and strives for balance and for resilience. Indigenous peoples have rich and ancient cultures and view their social, economic, environmental, and spiritual systems as interdependent.
