One identity I have that I am most proud of is my personality. My personality can either light up a room or dim it. I am a person who gravitate through energy, I can read the room without uttering a word. One identity I have that I am not proud of is my social status. Some say I come off as a mean or stuck-up person when they first meet me and to me first impressions means a lot especially when I know that I am very outgoing, funny, giving, and playful. I believe that I struggle with this because at times I can be an introvert when I do not know you personally.
After reading the article “The Potential and Promise of Latino Students” I learned that education is difficult for Latino’s and because there aren’t many bilingual classes it’s safe to say they fall behind compared to other races. In the Latino community the struggle because their English skills are limited and cause a setback in gaining higher education, higher wages, and improvement of their living standards. I chose “What Being Hispanic and Latinx Means in the United States” by Fernanda Ponce TEDx. The main argument is the role Latino people play in the culture, politics, and economy in the US. I think her addressing stereotypes and assumptions are used to support her argument. I agree with her point of view looking from the outside because when you’re not born into something or when you’re introduced to something new it’s hard to adjust and depending on the tools that’s available to help you adjust, there’s no specific timeframe when you’ll master it, similar to the Latino community adjusting to the American way.
