1) Select 1-2 paragraphs from “African-Born Immigrants in U.S. Schools.” Summarize them and respond to them.
The use of film as an educational medium in the U.S. curriculum is powerful due to its visual and dramatic effects. However, in culturally diverse settings, it can lead to emotional discomfort among learners, as noted by Daly (2007). This discomfort arises when film representations distort the reality of students' backgrounds, particularly in the case of African-born immigrants. Western media has historically portrayed Africans negatively, perpetuating harmful stereotypes of unintelligence, superstition, and expendability, as well as depicting Africa as a dangerous place. American-born students often derive derogatory epithets from these portrayals, causing emotional distress to African students. Despite Africa's progress and modernity, media images consistently depict famine and starvation. To foster a more inclusive and accurate learning environment, educators must critically analyze and choose films that avoid perpetuating harmful stereotypes and biases, promoting positive self-esteem and cultural understanding among all students.
2) Discuss something you learned and/ or can relate to from one of this week’s assigned videos.

African immigrants frequently face the issue of balancing their cultural identification from their native country with the necessity of adapting to American culture. It may be necessary to navigate cultural differences such as language, customs, and traditions in school’s.In addition, the comparison in educational settings can make certain students to feel insecure, and Black children in the United States are unfairly punished and criminalized then often get compared to other students to do better.

I selected this video because it observes that there has historically been conflict between African immigrants and African Americans. the video show cases how they established this network of teaching who we are, accepting our differences, but also understanding how powerful people are when we work together. The video matters because it showcases the difficluties of African immigrants and African Americans.
