The paragraphs from the first page of “African-Born Immigrants in U.S. Schools” emphasize the lack of recognition and integration of African-born immigrants in the American education system. The authors highlight that despite the significant increase in the number of African-born immigrants in the United States, the education system does not adequately acknowledge their presence or make the necessary adjustments to facilitate their integration. They argue for the importance of recognizing African-born immigrants as a distinct cultural group with unique vulnerabilities.
This issue is particularly concerning because it leads to a lack of understanding among American-born educators and peers about the histories, cultures, and achievements of African-born immigrants. The authors also point out that African cultures and people are often misrepresented in Western-authored textbooks and media, which further disadvantages African-born children or children of African-born parents in the Western world.
In response to these challenges, the paper calls for multicultural education advocates to endorse the argument for recognizing the distinctness of African-born immigrants and advocates for curricular adjustments that address this issue.
I find these paragraphs to be insightful and important because they shed light on the challenges faced by African-born immigrants in the U.S. education system. It underscores the need for a more inclusive and culturally sensitive approach to education that recognizes the diversity of immigrant populations and their unique needs.

Hey Shayla, I agree with what you said about “African-Born Immigrants in U.S. Schools” in your first paragraph because despite the significant increase of African-born immigrants in the United States, the education system does not recognize their presence and does little to facilitate their integration through the implementation of necessary curricular adjustments.
