1.Select 1-2 paragraphs from The Subtle Evolution of Native American Education. Summarize them and respond to them.
Multicultural is defined as an idea, reform movement,a a major goal to change structure of educational institutions so that male and female students, exceptional students, students who are members of diverse racial, ethnic , language and cultural groups. Immigrants keep coming in with their own cultural ideas of how they wants things to be. African immigrants come from different cultures, speak different languages, and have different transitions and beliefs. Some Africans nations and culture aren’t well known internationally.Students who come from lesser-known cultures and speak non-widespread languages are at a greater disadvantage, as silent and underrepresented minorities. This means Africans are looking forward to this brought future when they migrant . Africans are all the same they speak different language and believe different things.
Elementary and secondary educational systems in Africa are structured differently than western systems.African children have to contend with both the negative depictions of Africa in the media, and the mis-portrayals about African societies in the school curriculum.which means they go through discrimination. Western media presents African people as primitive, diseased and uneducated individuals. In the other hand Africans are demonstrated as people who don’t have good education .African-born immigrant students in U.S. middle and high schools are shamed when they are portrayed as primitive, and their nations characterized as backward, underdeveloped, and covered with jungles. Immigrant origin students are a diverse group.
2. Discuss something you learned and/ or can relate to from one of this week’s assigned videos.
Something that really caught my attention was when in the first video of “ some challenges for U.S school for African immigrants” is that they push you to be yourself and that means holding values that your parents have taught you , which doesn’t work in the educational system because they show you to be very humble and respectful to others. Which I agree because my mom always taught me to be respectful and listen to others before I speak. Quick little background , when I entered Pre-k I spoked no type of English because my parents didn’t speak any English at the time either I would communicate with them in Spanish so I would speak to my pre-k teacher in Spanish .
3.Share your source on this topic–let us know what it is, why you selected it, and why it matters.
I picked this for my first question and now because school is hard for African students or students ingerneral when they come to the U.S. Sometimes the schools expect you to go above and beyond. Students go into ESL when they don’t know English properly some students feel second table and some done. It’s very important to learn English tho. It’ll help you in your everyday life. Maybe not many are able to but people could do it. People get discriminated for not speaking English or the color of skin.
