Multicultural teaching needs to get better at including all kinds of immigrant backgrounds, especially from Africa. Some African cultures aren’t well-known worldwide, but we should respect and celebrate the heritage of immigrant kids. When school lessons focus on some cultures more than others, it can make students from less highlighted cultures feel left out and upset. Also, if a student’s culture is put down in public, they can feel really bad, making it harder for them to fit into their new community. In the video “Africa in America: Migration,” I learned that many families, including African American ones, value education as a way to improve their lives. Education is seen as a powerful tool to overcome historical racism. Unlike aspiring to be famous in sports or entertainment, focusing on education can lead to meaningful influence and opportunities, making it a valuable investment for the future.
