What I learned about new literacies from the video given and the article is in today’s current world, having the understanding of new literacy is beneficial to you in the age of technology. It’s something that’s even affecting the way teachers would teach in school due to the fact that our brains are getting rewired through the use of technology. One of the class glossary examples states apple pay, and google pay in which it surprised me because I didn’t think about the way that is also considered new literacy. I believe that you could still apply ethnography into new literacy which is what Szwed believes to be the best way to learn literacy. There are culturally different ways that you may view new literacy when it comes to social media. Perry’s views on new literacy may be more clean cut, you may indulge in new literacy but in the end it would be something that you would evolve into. Some new literacies that have helped me when it comes to school is the use of google or google drive. Whenever there came a time where I was confused on an assignment, I would go to google and see if I could solve my issue through reading articles on the issues that I have. When it comes to google drive, it’s where I do all my writing as I feel it’s so easily accessible since I have the app on my iphone and ipad. I have had to help my mom countless times with new literacies and technology. It can be frustrating at times because she’ll ask for help on something I’ve shown her how to do many times, but it’s something that I’ll always help with. One new literacy that I cannot live without is video games. I play video games everyday as it’s a fun pastime. I also grew up playing video games. If I were to explain my personality in 3 emojis they would be 😊🤓😴
