Summary
The skill of reading, writing, and understanding information is known as literacy. Beyond the mechanical skills of reading and writing, literacy includes critical thinking, interpretation, and understanding various forms of information present in different texts. Being able to read and write is a crucial ability that empowers individuals to communicate effectively, acquire knowledge, and make informed choices. I define literacy as the capacity to read, write, and comprehend written content, which is in line with general knowledge. I learned that there are various forms of literacy as I researched the idea. The term "basic literacy" describes the capacity for both functional reading and writing. Utilizing reading, writing, and math skills in daily life is known as functional literacy. The capacity to successfully use digital devices and explore online information is referred to as digital literacy. Critically assessing and evaluating media messages and information is part of media literacy. The abilities required to discover, assess, and utilize information efficiently are referred to as information literacy. John Trischitti describes literacy throughout his talk as an important part of having a successful and healthy lifestyle. According to John, if literacy was practiced and influenced in school, then children would feel like they were worth more. I can agree with some parts of what he was saying, such as how literacy can have a major impact on someone's life in many areas.
